“You didn’t bash the car,…we did”…this was it, this was the defining moment in a pivotal story, tangled in a web of deceit, temptation, lies and consequences. It’s not everyday that we get to witness the fall of a good man from greatness. So, this review of Living in Bondage: Breaking Free is a call back to one of the most brilliant films to come from one of Nollywood’s finest; Ramsey Nouah.
Being desperate is not always a bad thing. However, when you begin to cross the kind of lines that blur out your moral compass, then you might very well end up being the villain of your own story. Living in Bondage: is a film about a different breed of Hushpuppis; the kind you do not want to meddle with aka. your Zaddy’s Zaddies.
So, if you’re Nigerian, and you have a Netflix account, but still haven’t seen this film, it’s not too late for you yet boomer. With top-notch acting from veteran actors like Ramsey Nouah, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Bob-Manuel Udokwu and Kenneth Okonkwo, mixed with fresh bloods like Jidekena Achufusi, Nancy Isime and Shawn Faqua, you’re in for a fine ride.
The script, the plot and the budget all quite the banger. Good movies require a great deal of time, effort and sass, and it is quite evident that these were not an issue at all.
Although, the film almost ended in an anticlimax, mostly because the producers were trying to find a good reason for sequel. Either way, I strongly believe that if this franchise is not over flogged like The Wedding Party, then it could very much stand the test of time to become of the best releases to ever come out of Nollywood.
I already knew that Ramsey Nouah was quite the bad boy, but I never knew that he was bad enough to stand up to the baddest guys in the industry; Kemi Adetiba, Niyi Akinmolayan, Kunle Afolayan, Jade Osiberu, Ishaya Bako, Genevieve Nnaji etc. Yeah…I left out your faves *whispers* Toyin Abraham and Omoni Oboli – come for me (they are beautiful in their own ways).
The final verdict of my review of Living in Bondage: Breaking Free is this; it is a movie that was put together by some of the finest minds in the industry, and I can’t wait to see more of this.
