When Spielberg sat in his thinking chair to ponder on the kind of film he was going to make next, he probably thought to himself “Mans not hot mehn! I need to make a film that would turn adults back into kids again”. Ready Player One is a film, that not only puts all your PS4s and Nintendos to shame (I want me an Oasis!!! *sobs*), but radically expands the world of imagination in ways I have never seen before. My Buzz Review of Ready Player One is a grand account of an eye-popping visual spectacle, that is bound to leave you mind blown.
I never order a second bowl of popcorn when I see a film, why? because when I’m done with my popcorn, I’m done! But guyyyyssss, this film had me in pure ecstasy, it was like an entire portion of my childhood was stuffed into a projector and made to look cooler. I saw the film by 9pm last night, and I was only 5 minutes into it when I finished my first bowl of popcorn. Ladies and Gentlemen, It was only 5 minutes, and I was already sold on this! (long story short, I got a second bowl of popcorn).
All through the entire film, I wondered how a 71-year old director could have such limitless capacity for insane imagination. It was like watching the mind of a child on a massive screen and I could not stop staring. This is not a CGI-fest with a basic story (I’m looking at you Pacific Rim: Uprising), this film has such a great plot, you’d have to mentally convince yourself that it is a work of fiction.
The entire cast was brilliant; Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn took their creativity up a notch and basically put forward brilliant performances by making fictional characters completely relatable. Other cast members worthy of recognition are Lena Waithe, Philip Zhao and Win Morisaki, they were basically the “sugar and spice” of the entire film.
The only flaw this film had was the villain, he was adequate, but not enough. Ben Mendelsohn justified his role well enough to be the bad guy, but his character was made to have a tiny bite out of a whole range of possibilities, maybe we could blame this on screen time (bleh!).
Nevertheless, for a film that has the fate of the world, lying in a video game, I would go out on a limb to dare you not to see it on a small screen (seriously mahn! don’t be that guy!). My Buzz Review of Ready Player One had to be positive because, there are really no words to describe this once-in-a-decade type of eye candy. Steven Spielberg is certainly a gift to the world, and I am most appreciative of another one of his masterpieces.

Official Synopsis of Ready Player One:
In the year 2045, the real world is a harsh place. The only time Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) truly feels alive is when he escapes to the OASIS, an immersive virtual universe where most of humanity spends their days. In the OASIS, you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone-the only limits are your own imagination. The OASIS was created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who left his immense fortune and total control of the Oasis to the winner of a three-part contest he designed to find a worthy heir. When Wade conquers the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends-aka the High Five-are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS.
