Upper Thursday must have been Christmas for die-hard fans of zombie-apocalypse-type movies, as they witnessed the premiere of the final installment of the fifteen year franchise of the Resident Evil series based on the popular video game by the same name. Though the movie had some epic fails, i am quite excited to be doing a buzz review of Resident Evil Final Chapter.
As with the previous movies, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter suffered a great deal from the lapses and plot holes of the past installments. The movie tried putting bits and pieces of what of was left of the franchise back together, but who could blame Screen Gems for wanting to end on a high note?
The Final Chapter failed at character development, forcing unestablished characters once again down the minds of the audience. And consequently failing at creating an emotional connection between the audience and characters, while struggling to make their deaths consequential.
The movie however, did bring its own sense of dark, gritty humor and excellently delivered climatic scenes. The Final Chapter had the best orchestrated plot of all six instalments, but too little could have been done to salvage the disaster done in the past films, which had a great deal of impact on its ability to deliver clarity.
Nonetheless, Milla Jovovich’s performance as Alice was an improved and more humanized version of the character. Also, Ian Glein’s villainous role as Dr. Isaac was a peculiar feature to the film, as this was the first time we got to see a scheming villain with well-defined and understandable motives in the franchise. There was a beautiful focus on the actual plot, than just the fight scenes, which kept the movie interesting. And oh yeah, We got to see the trinity of b**ches.
