After a profitable franchise and still growing box office presence. Wonder Woman is not yet done with the world as she is still breaking records in other parts of the Cosmos. It was recently announced that the Wonder Woman franchise would have a continuity (spoiler alert; if you haven’t seen Wonder Woman, you probably should before reading this). According to ScreenRant, the Wonder Woman sequel does not have an official release date yet. However, Director Patty Jenkins and DC’s creative overlord; Geoff Johns are already working on a treatment for the script. The sequel will see Gal Gadot reprise her role as Diana Prince which is not surprising at all. However what blew our socks off was the announcement that her Wonder Woman Co-star; Chris Pine would also be reprising his role as Steve Trevor. Yes! that’s right! Steve Trevor will be returning for Wonder Woman Sequel.
This is quite questionable as we all saw Steve Trevor meet his demise in Wonder Woman (I guess we have to keep our fingers crossed for this one). Nonetheless, his return may not be coupled with the franchise’ initial director; Patty Jenkins, as she has not been officially confirmed by WB studios to direct the sequel. The sequel will set its gaze on the Cold War during the ‘80s meaning the plot would most likely take place in America. Consequentially, it is very likely that Diana will be pitted against the Soviet Union during the final days of the Cold War.
I think we’d all agree that one of the strong points for Wonder Woman was the wonderful relationship (haha, pun intended) and hinted romance between Chris Pines’ Steve Trevor and Gal Gadots’ Diana Prince. Hence, with the reintroduction of the supposedly dead Steve Trevor (the u.s air force spy), I think its only logical to conclude that there would be a continuation of the same sort of romance we saw in Wonder Woman – these are just my speculations.
However, there has been no official confirmation to his appearance, and there are so many ways the character might appear in the sequel, I think it would be safe to speculate how they intend to bringing back Steve Trevor from the dead. Whether he just appears in a flashback, or miraculously survived the crash (i highly doubt this) or is brought back to life by alien technology, we all hope for a good plot from whoever would be writing and directing the sequel.
Not forgetting the huge effect this movie has on the yet to be released Justice League movie, it has given us all a taste of whatever Warner Bros is cooking. And has reignited the faiths of many in the upcoming Justice League movie. However, one thing is certain, fans who were thrilled with Wonder Woman, already have another reason to be thrilled again as Steve Trevor will be returning for Wonder Woman Sequel.
I personally think that the DC Extended Universe has done a spectacular job with Wonder Woman and I hope this big success would continue with Justice League and other upcoming DC movies. Lets wait and see how they Unite The Seven and bring the beloved Steve to life.
