Without wasting any more time, check out my top 7 horror fave-list of 2017.

No. 7: It comes at night
This is a 91-minute psychological horror film written and directed by Trey Edward Shults. It is an R-rated film that shows a man and his family who are secure within a desolate home while an unnatural threat terrorizes the world at the time. This causes the man to establish a tenuous domestic order with his wife and son but a lot soon happens when a desperate young family arrives seeking refuge.
This film promised “greatness” at the beginning but it turned out otherwise. I was not satisfied with the climax AT ALL. I personally believe the movie ended abruptly, when all the intrigue was about to start.Trey Shults obviously had a direction for the film but he was unable to properly convey it to the audience. Nonetheless, there were still some exciting moments, but the story was not as captivative as I would have loved it to be. I didn’t know the characters well enough to feel and understand their love, pain and fear.
But above all, it had great cinematography and was worthy of making my top 7 horror fave-list of 2017.

No. 6: IT
This is an amazing supernatural horror film directed by Andy Muschietti. The movie is based on a novel written by the horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy expert; Stephen King (FYI, ma boo!). This flick is about children mysteriously disappearing in the town of Derry, Maine. There, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back centuries.
This was an interesting movie that didn’t live up to its expectations. In fact, you could easily call this the horror film that was not horrific at all. The opening scene was great but not long after that, it turned out worse. It perfectly shows how a great story can progress into a mere cliché. It was obvious that its production was focused more on trying to scare the audience instead of bringing a great horror story to life. Although I was startled a few times, I didn’t get the raw scare I wanted. Apart from that, the film did not properly depict the story itself. Nevertheless, it had to make my top 7 horror fave-list of 2017 because the actors did a great job especially Bill Skarsgård who played the role of Pennywise the dancing clown.

No. 5: Annabelle Creation
A couple still grieving the death of their daughter take in children from a local orphanage, but the family are soon terrorized by a demented doll known as Annabelle. This is also another supernatural horror film directed by David F. Sandberg and written by Gary Dauberman. Annabelle:Creation is a prequel to 2014’s Annabelle and the fourth installment in The Conjuring series.
This was a great film. The story line was interesting and captivating. Although this movie didn’t give me raw scare like the previous Annabelle movie, it was creepier. There were some really slow, boring and predictable scenes in the movie which I didn’t like (I really hate when horror movies are predictable 😤😤). Above all, the actors did a good job especially the ladies – Stephanie Sigma, Miranda Otto and Talitha Bateman.

No. 4: Happy Death Day
I love this movie! It’s a slasher film directed by Christopher B. Landon and written by Scott Lobdell. It shows a college student who is murdered on her birthday and begins reliving the day over and over again; at that point, she sets out to find her mysterious killer and stop her death.
This movie turned out better than I expected. The actors were convincing especially Jessica Rothe who played Theresa “Tree” Gelbman, the college student who constantly was murdered on her birthday. Although classified as a horror flick, It is more of a comedy to me but above all, an interesting, must-see entertaining film to watch before you start any horror movie this year.

No. 3: Cult of Chucky
I looooovvveee! like loooovvveee this movie! This R-rated movie showed how Chucky returned to terrorize his previous human victim, Nica. I hope you all remember that Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky has been in the body of a doll for 30 years now. This time, the killer doll has some scores to settle with his old enemies, enlisting the help of his former wife. This brilliant 91-minute film was written and directed by Don Mancini.
I personally loved and enjoyed this entry of Chucky series because of the humour in the movie – simply amazing. If you’re a fan of the Chucky series, you’ll agree with me that this entry stood out from all past installments. The humour and violent blood spilling scenes in the movie were moderate and this made the movie enjoyable and less bland. The story line was captivating especially if you’ve been a fan from time past and you’ve been watching the previous series. The only downside is that you might need to catch up on a few past installments to be able to understand what’s going on in this entry.

No. 2: Get out
Now this! This right here is the movie I’ve been waiting to write about all year long. This movie is a masterpiece! It was a tough call not placing it at the number 1 of my top 7 horror fave-list of 2017.
Get Out is a horror thriller film, written and directed by Jordan Peele, showed a black man (Chris) who visits the family of his white girlfriend (Rose). In his white girlfriend’s family house, the black servants acted strangely and her family’s overly accommodating behavior was an “act” to Chris. There were a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries which led him to a truth he never could have imagined. Just because you’re invited doesn’t mean you’re welcome – haha.
Get Out was a funny, captivating story around white liberalism with not totally violent scenes. This is a must see movie! This movie goes far beyond being a horror flick. It is a carefully thought through stinging criticism of the white liberalism towards blacks in general. The movie started out sweet and mild but gradually turned out to be raw jaw-dropping, mind-bugging, theatrical brilliance. There was a perfect blend of humour, violence and the social conversation. I know this looks boring but trust me this film is worth your time. From the beginning of the movie to the end, I didn’t blink or move a muscle, literally. The film drew me in, it wasn’t predictable and the characters were realistic, relatable, and loveable all at the same time.

No. 1: Split
This movie made my 2017!!! To a lot of people, it’s an ordinary film but honestly, it tops my top 7 horror fave-list of 2017. Here’s why…
This psychological horror-thriller film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan showed a man with 23 distinct personalities who kidnaps and imprisons three teenage girls in an isolated underground facility. Things take an unexpected turn with the emergence of a 24th personality.
The film premiered in September, 2016 but was released in January 2017. I don’t understand the hate around this movie at all (haha! yeah I’m looking at you Enioluwa Awopejo). I personally believe a lot of people didn’t get this. From a brilliant performance to realistic characters and unpredictable but engaging storyline, nothing went wrong. This great horror thriller was well-written and perfectly presented from the beginning to the end. James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy were perfectly casted for their roles; in fact, all the characters were properly presented. I can guarantee that this film is totally worth your time and money and I’d watch it over and over because I’m so certain I won’t get bored. This was the most amazing movie I saw in 2017. You should definitely check it out.
